ViPC Monthly Pigment Meeting Recap
Since its establishment, the Vitiligo and Pigment Clinic (ViPC) has been dedicated to promoting clinical education and knowledge-sharing in the field of pigmentary disorders. Our monthly Journal Reading and Case Discussion Sessions held at Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital aim to provide a platform for in-depth learning and the latest updates in pigmentary research—particularly for dermatology residents and physicians interested in vitiligo and hypopigmentary diseases.
This month’s session focused on objective assessment tools and non-invasive imaging techniques in pigmentary disorders, exploring both theoretical principles and clinical applications—from skin color measurement to reflectance confocal microscopy.
📘 Book Reading
Presenter: Dr. Hsuan-Chi Chen
Supervisor: Dr. Chau-Yu Huang
Topic: Pigmentary Skin Disorders (2018, edited by Kumarasinghe)
Chapter 3: Measurements of Skin Colour
This presentation introduced various methods for evaluating skin color, including subjective visual scoring, instrumental colorimetry, and image-based analysis. Their clinical applications, advantages, and limitations in tracking treatment response were also discussed.

Chapter 6: Reflectance Confocal Microscopy in Pigmentary Disorders
This presentation outlined the principles and clinical applications of reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) in pigmentary conditions. It demonstrated how RCM provides real-time, non-invasive visualization of melanocyte distribution and epidermal architecture, facilitating more precise diagnosis of hypopigmented lesions.
At ViPC, we are committed to bridging clinical practice, research, and education—making pigmentary medicine more accessible, evidence-based, and collaborative.
We warmly welcome all dermatologists passionate about pigmentary disorders to join us on this ongoing journey of shared learning and innovation.
