Vitiligo Awareness Month|Shining a Light on Courage and Hope
June is globally recognized as Vitiligo Awareness Month. In this meaningful month of 2025, Dr. Chau-Yu Huang of the Department of Dermatology, Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, represented the institution at the Taiwanese Dermatological Association's press conference and contributed to the newly published “Consensus on Clinical Treatment and Care Guidelines for Vitiligo”, aiming to promote accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for more patients.
While vitiligo is not contagious, it can lead to social stigma, self-doubt, and psychological distress. As healthcare professionals, we believe that healing involves not only clinical intervention, but also empathy and support to help patients regain their confidence and dignity.
🔬 A New Milestone in Vitiligo Treatment
Taiwan is about to introduce the first approved targeted topical therapy for vitiligo, marking a new era of more precise, safe, and effective treatment options.
The Vitiligo and Pigment Research Center (ViPC) at Chang Gung has been actively involved in:
-
Clinical innovation: AI imaging, JAK inhibitors, biologics
-
Mechanistic research: Melanocyte transplantation, immunological pathways
-
Patient empowerment: Health education and psychological support to restore confidence
